WEEK 1

Barcelona Blueprint

Defined by its urban planning, Barcelona grew under the watchful eye of Ildefons Cerdà. The Catalonian civil engineer, architect, and founder of the progressive term “urbanization” transformed the cityscape through the creation of a grid-like short block system that encouraged and promoted walking, human interaction, and a vibrant way of life.

Within Cerda’s carefully planned city, you’ll find Catalan Modernism everywhere you look—the movement was most predominantly expressed through architecture and is exemplified across Barcelona by curved lines and intricate details. Take this week to discover it all as you explore the city’s blueprint, wander through the grand Sagrada Familia, and immerse yourself in Catalan cultural identity.

Included Activities:

  • Welcome Brunch & Orientation / Exploration Walk

  • Weekly Desayuno Club (Breakfast club)

  • Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt

  • La Sagrada Familia

  • Modernist Winery Visit

Optional Activities:

  • Beach Day

WEEK 2

Exteriors

As we dive deeper into Barcelona’s aesthetic, we’ll take week two to examine the city from the streets. Focus on the exterior architecture, from elaborate facades that line the buildings in the city’s central Gothic Quarter to the vibrant street art that burst out of the shadows with the fall of the Franco dictatorship and later found inspiration with the Parisian graffiti scene of the 1980s.

We’ll adventure well off the beaten path on an architecture tour as we work to understand Barcelona through the stories that echo from walls of stone, plaster, and spray paint.

Included Activities:

  • Street Art Experience

  • Weekly Desayuno Club

  • Tapas & Architecture Tour

WEEK 3

Interiors

Barcelona’s exteriors are well-known, yet its interiors are just as fascinating and complex. This week we’ll step inside and scrutinize the city from within as we focus on interior architecture and its fundamental role in the functionality of human occupancy.

Study and appreciate the aesthetic beauty and then experience the humanity that breathes life into the city’s vibrant spirit, culture, and traditions. You’ll explore some of the city’s most colorfully intricate buildings and recognize the ways in which Catalan Modernism influences and affects everyday life.

Included Activity:

  • Palau de la Musica

  • El Born & Mixology Course

  • Weekly Desayuno Club

Optional Activities:

  • Recinto Modernista de Sant Pau

WEEK 4

Revive

The evolution of culture is inevitable as we are constantly influenced by the traditions of our past, the ever-flowing change of society, and the contemporary world we interact with each and every day. This final week, we’ll celebrate the legacy of Catalan culture and embrace the city’s foresight for the future, one focused on reviving and repurposing the art and architecture of a monumental past.

Join us for a memorable experience at the famous Casa Batlló and a stunning sunset cruise up the coast to close out our time in Barcelona. Salut i Força!
