There's no place like Rome.

The story of the Roman Empire is one of ambition, creativity, beauty, and strategy. The city itself is a stunning example of people pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible—it’s the ideal setting to find inspiration both in life and business.

Work the Way You Want.

If you plan to work while on your Sojrn, you’ll have the opportunity to do so from afar while immersing yourself in the local culture. With a complimentary high-speed WiFi hotspot, your desk can be anywhere you like, from your own apartment to the cute coffee shop around the corner. Sojrn has also partnered with a cafe to create a Sojrn Space, so you’ll always have somewhere nearby to get work done or meet up with Chaptermates whenever you like. Think of it as your friendly neighborhood hangout.

We’ve found that this setup is ideal for the majority of people who join Sojrn. However, if you have more specific work needs, we also provide a co-working space nearby that’s open from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm local time, with access to printers, scanners, and photocopiers for an additional cost. Just be sure to choose this as an optional add-on when you book.

Welcome Home.

The History in Rome Sojrn offers one accommodation option. Scroll to see example photos.

  • Private Housing - $7,999 | A private studio that comes furnished with WiFi, a kitchenette, and space to work.

  • Shared Housing - $5,899 | A private room in a shared apartment. Rooms come furnished with WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, and space to work or relax.

  • No Housing - $3,299 | If you have specific accommodation needs, you may participate in the Sojrn program but arrange your own housing. While you will need to book and manage your accommodations on your own, you will be fully involved in all other facets of the Chapter and Sojrn community.

PS: If you book the Private Housing option with someone (shared bed), the second person gets 50% off of their Sojrn.

Travel through time.

With Rome as your home base, we've designed a four-week stay to help you connect with new people as you learn about the formation, expansion, and demise of the Roman Empire.

WEEK 1

An old building in Rome

Benvenuto

After settling into your new home, your first week is a chance to begin engaging with Italian culture, familiarizing yourself with your Chaptermates and your neighborhood, and learning to “do as the Romans do.” So, get a taste of la dolce vita, and travel back in time to witness the birth of the world we know today.

This week, you’ll take part in a mix of introductory activities ranging from neighborhood walks to welcome brunches or hidden gem scavenger hunts, and you’ll get your first glimpse into the Roman past through in-depth history lessons. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of exploratory optionals that could include Vespa rides or culinary tours, each aimed at shaping your understanding of Rome’s famous cuisine and architecture.

WEEK 2

Ancient Origins

In week two, you'll get acquainted with an iconic cast of characters and examine the events that set the stage for the rise of one of the world's greatest empires. You'll step out into ancient ruins as you unearth the origins of Rome and walk through some of its most important sites: the Forum, Trajan's market, and the Colosseum.

Your activities will focus on deepening your understanding of the city that laid the foundation for the modern world. These experiences may include walking tours of Rome's most notable buildings, cycling tours of the Appian way, local guided cooking classes, and community happy hours.

WEEK 3

Travelers on the History in Rome Chapter will learn about ancient rulers.

Caesar & Augustus

Now that you've covered the origins of Rome, this week you'll become students of the city's most famous rulers as you discover the shrewd, calculated strategies they deployed to conquer vast swaths of Europe. Over the years, others have imitated the Machiavellian tactics used to climb political ladders and grab hold of power, yet seldom have they been as successful as Rome's great emperors.

This week is a character study of Rome’s most cunning leaders. Activities may range from story sessions on Julius Caesar and others to a tour of Palatine Hill, describing in-depth the role this monumental structure played in the building of an empire. The other evenings will mix happy hours, dining, sport, and workshops in the arts, cuisine, or wine.

WEEK 4

Legacy

Just as remnants of the Roman Empire are still visible throughout much of Europe, the reasons behind its collapse and the stories leading up to its ultimate demise remain strikingly relevant even today. From the raucous Bacchanalia festival to political backstabbing, over the centuries, Rome has served as the epicenter for countless wild, outrageous, and influential events, acts, and accidents.

This week, you’ll explore the legacy of the Empire through activities that dive deep into some of Rome’s most noteworthy tales. Of course, this is your last week in the Italian capital, so there will be plenty of food and drink-based experiences as well; you’ll feast like the Romans did and discover the secrets behind some of the nation’s most iconic specialties.
