Sojrn’s Wine in Tuscany month abroad unfolds at a leisurely pace. With more free time than our two-week Sojrn, the four-week fully immersive stay is ideal for travelers who work remotely and want to feel like a true local. You’ll experience four weeks in Siena, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the world.

Two to three weekly planned activities, workshops, or social gatherings designed to give you a deeper understanding of wine, from how it’s made to how to taste and appreciate it. This is a true slow-travel experience that offers some structure but leaves most of each week open for independent exploration and flexible work time.

You'll Learn

The foundations of winemaking, from harvest and fermentation to bottling and aging.

The ways that different tasting techniques like sniffing, swirling, aerating, and sipping are utilized to discover different facets of a wine.

How certain agricultural factors like soil composition and climate influence aromas and flavors in wine.

How to speak to your personal preferences so you can continue to confidently order, taste, and enjoy wine!

How to approach food and wine pairing, such as Chianti with tomatoes or Brunello with mushrooms, truffles, and meat.

What's Included

Along with the standard included accommodation options of a private one–bedroom apartment or a private room in a shared apartment, you can also make your own arrangements.

Led by knowledgeable guides, Sojrn plans two to three weekly educational workshops, events, and activities ranging from learning how wine is made, to taste profiling and pairing dishes.

With the help of expert sommeliers, local chefs, and new friends, Sojrn plans two to three activities and events each week, ranging from cooking lessons to social gatherings.

Sojrn arranges social gatherings, happy hours and optional meals to connect with new friends and build community.

Your Chapter will include two Sojrn Hosts who foster a positive and strong group dynamic while ensuring you are able to fully immerse yourself in the local Tuscan culture.

Social events for Chaptermates to get together, including weekly meetups, a welcome meal, farewell dinner, and more.

You’ll be given access to an online portal and receive pre-Chapter materials full of useful resources designed specifically for your Tuscan wine experience, group, and itinerary.

Personal WiFi hotspots provide you with internet access wherever you are.

Airport pickup and Hosts on hand throughout day one ensure that the check-in process is smooth and hassle-free.

$6,599 | A private one-bedroom apartment that comes furnished with a double bed, WiFi, kitchen, and space to work or relax. If you sign up with another person with the intention of sharing Private Housing, one person should book the Private Housing option, and one person should book the No Housing option.

A week in the life

Please note: Chapter activities, events, excursions, and optionals are updated and refreshed throughout the year and subject to change based on the weather, the season, and Siena’s many cultural celebrations.

The following is an example week during the four-week Chapter.

Monday

Meet up with your Chaptermates in the morning and head out for a guided tour of Siena’s winding Medieval streets. Wander different contradas or neighborhoods and begin to understand the rivalries that have existed between them for hundreds of years. In the afternoon, work from a cafe or continue exploring before an aperitivo with the group.

Tuesday

Grab coffee at the Fonte Gaia fountain; then, you’re heading into the hillsides for a Chianti experience and vineyard tour. Spend the day learning the types of grapes used in iconic Chianti Classico and the vinification process from harvest to de-stemming, crushing, fermentation, aging, and bottling. Your evening is open to explore Siena independently.

Wednesday

If you’ve got free time this morning, meet up with Chaptermates and experience the colors, smells, and tastes of fresh Italian produce as your Chapter Host guides you on a trip to a colorful local market. That evening, head into Siena’s maze of alleys and find a traditional Tuscan dinner.

Thursday

Get some work done in the morning, or immerse yourself in the lively streets of Siena. In the afternoon, you’ll head to a personal taste profile workshop to understand different Chianti tiers. With a private sommelier, you’ll discover your personal palate preferences so you can navigate wine choices with ease.

Friday

If you’ve got the day free, meet in the morning in the piazza for an end-of-the-week trip to Montalcino to explore the wine regions outside the city. You’ll tour wine cellars and vineyards as you try wines from three different Brunello wineries while passing through picture-perfect landscapes and visiting ancient monasteries.

Saturday & Sunday

Join Chaptermates for an optional escape to Rome. Take the train down and then set out to explore one of the more historic capital cities in the world. Visit the Colosseum and Circus Maximus, and spend an afternoon touring the grand buildings of the Vatican if you’ve got the time.

Tuscany Chapter Notes

You should expect a moderate level of physical activity on your Chapter.

Coworking spaces are not common in Siena yet.

Dryers are not common in the region.

Siena and the surrounding Tuscan region is very hilly and you will spend time walking throughout the city and through vineyards and wineries.

While the internet connection in Siena is not always the highest speed, you will have your own personal WiFi hotspot so that you can work remotely if you choose to.
