Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost?
Each Chapter has a different price based on the local cost of living, the accommodation tier you select, and any optionals you choose for the two or four weeks.

We also recommend budgeting another 15% of the cost to participate in optional activities throughout the month.
What's included?
Specific inclusions are listed on each Chapter page, but in general all Sojrns include:
Accommodations
A variety of housing options to choose from to suit your budget and needs.
Local Host
Our in-the-know Local Host is there to help with any questions or issues that may arise while abroad.
Sojrn Spaces
Dedicated work space, local hangouts and more all equipped with killer wifi.
Friend Group
Each Chapter has up to 20 people meaning you have a built in friend group in your temporary home.
Curated Activites
We include themed activities as well as a menu of vetted optionals (paid separately) to fill your free time.
Helpful Resources
Going abroad can be complicated. We have the tools and resources to make the transition as smooth as possible.
What is not included in the price?
Anything not listed as "included" such as international flights, visas, and meals are not included in the program price.
Each Chapter has two to six included activities per week. Guests also have access to numerous optional activities which can be paid for separately.
If I book shared accommodations, will my roommate be the same gender as me?
If you book a shared apartment, you may be paired with someone of another gender. We will ask your accommodation preferences prior to your Chapter; however, depending on the number of guests, we cannot guarantee the gender of your roommate.
When is the latest I can book?
We recommend booking at least 60 days in advance to guarantee acceptance. Booking within 30 dates of the start date is "on request" only.

If you are trying to book late (within 30 days) you can also inquire about program rates without accommodation. (i.e. you join the Chapter, but will be responsible for your own housing.)

Also, for certain Chapters (especially in Europe), the earlier you book, the more likely you are to get preferred housing as there are more options available.
I’m going with a friend or partner. Can we share a room? Can I get a single room?
Yes! If you sign up with another person with the intention of sharing Private Housing, one person should book the Private Housing option, and one person should book the No Housing option.
If the Chapter you selected does not offer No Housing, please reach out to our Community Manager through our web chat for more information about our second guest discounts.
What is the payment policy?
There is a trip-specific non-refundable deposit to reserve a spot. If you choose to pay in installments, the remainder is to be paid according to the following schedule:
90 days before trip - 50% of trip cost
60 days before trip - 75% of trip cost
30 days before trip - 100% of trip cost
You will be sent automatic payment requests with a link to enter credit card information. Installments should be paid within 3 days of payment request.
Keep in mind, sometimes prices go up as it gets closer to the departure date and paying a deposit does not guarantee a specific price. To lock in your trip price, you can pay the full amount when you sign up.

Do I need trip insurance?
Yes. You must have comprehensive travel insurance throughout your entire time. This will cost between $100 and $300 depending on the policy you select.
Do I need a travel visa?
Depending on which country you are traveling to you may need a travel visa. You can find Chapter specific details under 'Additional Information' on each Chapter page.

Please note, for participants doing back-to-back Sojrns in Europe, there is a 90 day limit on stays within the Schengen area. If you are entering on a tourist visa (like most people), you will not be able to do more than three European Chapters back-to-back.
What happens if I decide to cancel?
We understand plans change, which is why we give you until 60 days before your Chapter start date to switch to a different one.
If you need to cancel your Sojrn, you will be responsible for the amounts below based on the date we receive your written confirmation of cancellation at support@sojrn.travel.

91 days or more days before departure: Deposit is non refundable and issued as “travel credit” on your account that can be transferred to another trip.
90 - 61 days before departure: 25% of the trip is non-refundable. Any additional amount paid will be refunded or given as travel credit.
60 - 31 days before departure: 50% of the trip is non-refundable. Any additional amount paid will be refunded or given as travel credit.
30 days or less before departure: No refund or credit possible.

Travel credits will expire five years from the date of issue. The deposit or travel credit cannot be exchanged for a cash refund of any type (see section below regarding Trip Transfers and Travel Credits).
No refund can be provided if you fail to join the Chapter, join it late, or leave it prior to its completion for any reason.

Further, any non-refundable deposits made to third-party suppliers and third-party cancellation fees will be subtracted from any refunds due under this section. In some instances, this may result in a refund or credit of $0 after these subtractions.

If my trip is canceled, what are my options?
If a Chapter is canceled due to reasons within Sojrn’s control and not for reasons due to force majeure, we can offer you the following choices:

-
Travel credit equal to what you have paid.
-
A refund equal to what you have paid.

If a trip is canceled due to a force majeure event, we can offer you the following choices:
-
Travel credit equal to the trip cost that you have paid minus any unrecoverable costs and monies. Unrecoverable costs and monies include but are not limited to deposit monies that we have received from you and forwarded to our suppliers, cancelation penalties imposed by third parties, our current standard fee to cover work involved in planning, booking and organizing your participation in a trip.
-
Travel credit equal to the trip deposit and a refund equal to the trip remaining balance that you have paid minus any unrecoverable costs and monies.
We require all travelers to obtain travel insurance to cover losses in the case of unrecoverable costs.
