You'll learn

To advance your pronunciation, vocabulary, and comprehension during weekly private tutor sessions where you’ll receive one-on-one feedback and support.

To develop confidence in your Spanish speaking skills through casual conversation with locals and Chaptermates on neighborhood walks and at social gatherings.

How to use Spanish to express your curiosity about landscapes through guided experiences on hikes and visits to family-run coffee plantations.

To strengthen your listening and conversation skills through the repetition of simple everyday activities such as buying a morning coffee, grocery shopping, meeting friends for lunch, and asking for directions.

About the influences of indigenous Colombian, Spanish, and Afro-Caribbean culture on regional cuisine during visits to local markets and cooking classes.

What's Included

Along with the standard included accommodation options of a private one–bedroom apartment or a private room in a shared apartment, you can also make your own arrangements.

While the bulk of your learning will be experiential, twice weekly one-on-one tutoring sessions will reinforce your Spanish language skills.

Sojrn plans five to six events, activities, or experiences each week that include everything from street market tours to salsa dancing.

Your Chapter will include two Sojrn Hosts who foster a positive and strong group dynamic while ensuring you are able to fully immerse yourself in the local Medellín culture.

Sojrn arranges the time and provides the space to connect with new friends and build a community in Medellín.

Social events for Chaptermates to get together, including weekly meetups, a welcome meal, farewell dinner, and more.

Personal WiFi hotspots provide you with internet access wherever you are, whether you need to check in with work or not.

You’ll be given access to an online portal and receive pre-Chapter materials full of useful resources designed specifically for your Chapter experience, group, and itinerary.

Airport pickup and Hosts on hand throughout day one ensure that the check-in process is smooth and hassle-free.

HOUSING OPTIONS

Choose your stay

$3,599 | A private apartment equipped with kitchen space, a kitchen table, Wi-Fi, and other modern amenities. If you sign up with another person with the intention of sharing Private Housing, one person should book the Private Housing option, and one person should book the No Housing option.

$2,999 | A private bedroom in a shared apartment equipped with a shared kitchen, a dining table, WiFi, and other modern amenities. Guests who book first are entitled to the main bedroom, which has an ensuite bathroom. The second bedrooms are slightly smaller and have bathrooms located directly outside their doors. If you book a shared apartment, you will be asked which gender you prefer to room with; however, you may be paired with someone of a different gender, depending on numbers.

A week in the life

Please note: Chapter activities, events, excursions, and optionals are updated and refreshed throughout the year and subject to change based on the weather, the season, and Medellín's many cultural celebrations.

The following is an example week.

Monday

Head out with Chaptermates through leafy green avenues in the Laureles neighborhood, and take in the art museums, graffiti, and murals. Or hang back and have a quiet morning getting settled in your new temporary home over coffee and join the group later for one of Latin America’s oldest games, Tejo, throwing rocks at gunpowder for fun!

Tuesday

Wake up ready to practice your Spanish! You’ll visit Comuna 13, experiencing the warmth and vibrancy of its residents through their stories and art. If you’re up for going out, there’s an informal gathering of native speakers and fellow travelers who meet up for Gringo Tuesdays, a language exchange and casual party at a local bar.

Wednesday

Want one-on-one help with pronunciation and vocabulary? Today, you’ll meet with your private tutor, demonstrate your language skills, and ask all your questions. Tonight, take a cooking class, learn about Medellín cooking and drinking traditions, and prepare an authentic Colombian dinner.

Thursday

Shhhhh…the location for the secret hike is hush-hush, just wear boots or walking shoes, bring drinking water, and we’ll take you out of town for a scenic trail walk with spectacular views. You may want a small siesta this afternoon because tonight there’s salsa class!

Friday

Your morning coffee in Medellín tastes delicious, right? Visit a local family-run coffee farm and find out why hand-picked Colombian coffee beans are famous for their flavor. Then meet your Chaptermates for Friday night dinner in town.

Saturday & Sunday

Day trip to Guatapé! Climb 700 steps up Piedra del Peñol for breathtaking views and then lunch in Antioquia. Sunday, stroll through the Mercado Campesino farmers’ market with an ice-cold freshly squeezed sugar cane juice with lime.
